Capital Campaign

LOPE is excited to announce the launch of our Capital Campaign for a new facility!

Why Do We Need A New Facility?

After over a decade of building on our work, LOPE has finally outgrown its current farm and needs a new facility. We are ready to expand our programs for rehabbing, retraining and rehoming more ex-racehorses. In addition, we want to fully develop our horsemanship education outreach (including a new internship program for at-risk young adults). In these ways, LOPE can continue to add even more value to the ex-racehorses and the community of horse lovers who appreciate them so much!

Ideal New Facility Location and Features

The ideal location will be in southwest area of Austin (such as Dripping Springs, Spicewood, Driftwood or Wimberley). We chose this region due to its large number of LOPE supporters (including our veterinary sponsor, Austin Equine Hospital), the wonderful equestrian community there and its central location for easy travel from all parts of Texas.

Specifications include good pasture turnout, safe fencing, an arena or riding area, access to a barn for stall rest horses and proximity to main roads. An absolutely perfect location would also have access to a covered arena and living quarters for LOPE interns.

Capital Campaign – How to Help

We are launching the campaign to lease a new facility — but our ultimate goal is to eventually purchase a permanent headquarters for LOPE. For more details on our campaign plans and goals, please see our full proposal summary for the project here (PDF).

The initial capital campaign funds will be applied towards the additional rent expense of a suitable facility, as well as launching initial education events at the new farm (for horses and people). The campaign donations would allow LOPE to immediately move to a new location and begin the steady expansion of our retraining and education programs.

At LOPE, we think ex-racehorses are magnificent for their heart, athleticism, and entertaining personalities. We are excited about expanding our ability to help them more effectively — as well as bring greater attention to their wonderful potential as riding companions and all-around mounts.

To donate to LOPE’s Capital Campaign, please visit our PayPal link or send check via mail to LOPE, 1550 Deerfield Rd, Dripping Springs, TX 78620. LOPE is an IRS 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax deductible. Our tax identification number is 73-1721579.

Thank you for your consideration of our campaign — and for your interest in LOPE’s work!
